Winter School

The interdisciplinary Doctoral Programme Climate Change (DK) at the University of Graz was hosting the DK Winter School 2021 ‘Decision Making under Uncertainty in Responding to Climate Change’. The DK thus made a step further on the path towards the training of excellent young researchers in the field of climate change.

The Winter School took place from February 8-12th, 2021 close to Graz in Austria. The overall topic was approached from various perspectives in a number of sessions. Each topic was introduced by a keynote talk of a leading expert and followed by discussion and interactive exchange with the doctoral students and DK faculty members.

The keynote presentations from different fields of expertise complemented the other contributions from the various disciplines represented in the DK programme. Between talks and interactive group sessions, we provided room for reflection and exchange with speakers and supervisors. The evenings were reserved for creative learning and social time.

The Winter School gave doctoral students the opportunity to get valuable and consistent feedback for their projects and to gain insights on uncertainty from one’s own and other disciplinary perspectives. The goal was to develop a common understanding of uncertainties and decision making under uncertainty and to support and stimulate students to develop joint publications.
