Winter School "Climate Change Thresholds"

February 22-26, 2016

Uncertainties regarding the consequences of climate change may be due to so-called climate tipping points or other thresholds in the human-environment system. Thus, tipping points describe regimes where a small parameter change suffices to induce a qualitative change in the system. The Winter School on Climate Change Thresholds aims at reaching a better understanding of climate-change related thresholds in environmental, social, economic, and political systems. For this purpose, several approaches for identifying and characterizing critical thresholds are introduced by experts and then explored together with the students as to their applicability in different fields of climate change research.

The Winter School is carried out by the Doctoral Programme “Climate Change: Uncertainties, Thresholds and Coping Strategies” at the University of Graz.
