Scientific Advisory Board
Feedback and evaluation: The DKCC has a scientific advisory board consisting of three established scientists with many years of experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and the supervision of doctoral students. As international experts, they assess the overall scientific concept of the doctoral programme and provide students with feedback on their research work. They offer the DKCC a qualified external perspective on the research work carried out and support the continuous self-evaluation of the programme.
Networking and interaction: The members of the scientific advisory board take part in the annual DKCC workshop. The expertise of the members of the advisory board includes climate system science, environmental ethics & political philosophy as well as risk assessment, policy analysis & environmental economics. In addition, the members of the Scientific Advisory Board act as hosts for international research stays of individual students or establish contacts with other researchers and institutes - an important support in the career development of young doctoral students.
Members
Douglas Crawford-Brown, Emeritus Professor of Environmental Science and Policy Analysis at the University of North Carolina and former Director of the Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research at the University of Cambridge
Stephen M. Gardiner, Professor of Philosophy and Ben Rabinowitz Endowed Chair in Human Dimensions of the Environment at the University of Washington, Seattle
Gabriele Hegerl, Professor of Climate System Science at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, University of Edinburgh
Stakeholder Board
The DKCC Stakeholder Board consists of seven experts from the field of climate change. The aim is to strengthen the direct exchange between doctoral students and practitioners and to achieve a critical understanding of the relevance of DKCC research results. "Stakeholders" are understood as direct users of scientific results, such as administration and government levels, or experts and policy advisors who are aware of what kind of research results are relevant in practice. Stakeholders convey different non-academic perspectives and thus support successful science communication to different target groups. This includes knowing how to present scientific results in a way that resonates with decision-makers and the public.
Empowerment and direct exchange: The aim is to enable DKCC doctoral students to develop scientific working methods and science communication that are accessible to policy-makers and experts. They should also form networks and promote their career prospects outside the academic world at an early stage. Contacts can play an important role in subsequent careers, as can the development of skills and strategies to succeed in both private and public sectors. The members of the Stakeholder Board come from the fields of administration, business and expert organisations. They meet the students at their own events, at round tables, bilateral meetings and individually during stays of several weeks at stakeholder organisations.
